The Sweet Life of ?

This layout was a little less intense with less stamping and less pieces!  We stamped the THE and the OF and colored it with the blending pen.    Did you know you could use the blending pen basically as a marker and pick up color from the lid of the ink pad and color with it!  Well, you can and it is so versatile! I live the Framework Alphabet, so many possibilities two use it creatively and it now fits in with my over stamps as a size E set in a D package, just double D size, hee hee.

The circle overlay, arrows, borders, Sweet banner, Life and Classified and it's envelope were all cut with the Cricut using Artbooking!  The borders are two layers with two different colors!  I love the detail it adds!.  We uses Washi tape, Baker's Twine, Aqua Dots  and Slate Twist Ties to bling it up a little!

So the title of this page is supposed to be The Sweet Life of _____.  I am struggling with what to put!  It is my girls' 9th birthday.  What are your suggestions?

Real Life Story

I haven't journaled yet but when I do this will become one of my favorite pages!

My friend Sara's husband was diagnosed with ALS, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's Disease back in January.  They had no health insurance, he was having trouble working and things were pretty bleak.  Their Sunday school class organized a 5K to raise money for his care.

These are my pictures of that event.  It was so touching to see how many people came out to support them and hug on them.  My entire family participated in the run, well they were supposed to, my Joshua got sick and daddy stayed home with him.  It was a nutty weekend because we got bad gas the day before too and our car was dead at the shop!

Back to why it is so special to me.  On the top right is a picture of my friend Sherrie and my daughter Lora finishing the 5k.  3 years ago Sherrie had a double lung transplant and now she is running 5Ks!  I pooped out before the end because of my bad knee but Lora and Sherrie toughed it out until the end!  To me this page just shows how faithful God is, Sherrie had been ill with Pulmonary Hypertension since I met her 13 or so years ago and Sara was drowning in debt and worrying about how to care for her husband and both of them God has taken care of in His own way!

Ok, now to the page! We used quite a few cuts from the Cricut Artbooking Cartridge, the arrows, notebook pages, circles, title, and a photo frame!  Love that Artbooking Cartridge!

There is also quite a bit of stamping: the chevron arrows, the reel and the Real life, little sentiments on the pictures and more!  We used these stamp sets on this page, The Reel Life and All the Details.  We even used The Reel Life to make our own patterned paper from White Daisy with the honeycomb shape!

For a little more texture, we added the Washi tape and Baker's Twine on the Journaling boxes and a Clothes Pin from the Ruby Mini Medley! There are also other embellishments with the Slate Striped Twist ties, and Glitter buttons and sequins from the black mini medley plus Sparkles!

As you can probably tell the detail on the pages I did at the Album Retreat are very detailed!

Hello World

White Daisy Paper becomes fabulous with a little Slate reinker, water and a one of our spray pens.  We sprayed just the left side of this page with Slate reinker and let it dry while we prepped the other things for this page!

We used our new Scallop Punch to create the scalloped Shimmer Trim along the top edge and under the picture on the right.  One hint, put the glitter side down when you are scalloping it! It works MUCH easier, both ways work but this way is better!

The Lagoon Washi tape was folded in half the long way to make the banners on the left by the overlay and by the picture below!

We stamped along the bottom with the One Way Borders stamp set using Whisper and Honey inks.  The same stamp set was used to stamp on the Goldrush paper with Goldrush ink to create a chevron pattern.

White Daisy paper was added under the Lagoon photo mats to make the hearts pop!  The Baker's Twine was added after that to add a little more interest.

On the Cork Photo Mat from the Midtown Cork Shapes, we stamped another one of the One Way Borders stamps.  We also used and arrow and banner  from the cork shapes!

Overlays from the Artbooking Cartridge were used on the left and right pages.  It is great to use them as an accent not just to cover the majority of a page.  Washi Tape and Aqua dots were used in various places on the page!
I had more pictures than they had space for on the page and really wanted to include the picture of Lora and Bongo.  So I pulled out my flip flaps small assortment and adhered it under the photo and put the remaining part of the photo in the flip flap.  I am going to put another picture on the front of the flip flap and journal above Lora's head.  It was a neat solution to the problem I had!  Quick and easy too!
This is the Flip flap folded down!

Oh Snap!

This past weekend I went to a CTMH Album Retreat.  I will say as far as a retreat, it wasn't restful, but it was very productive and intense!
The whole mini album was cut on the Cricut Artbooking Cartridge!
We used the Geometric Backgrounds stamp to make the fake wash tape at the bottom left of the left page! The same stamp made the texture on the banners in the middle of the page!  The camera and chevron/arrows come from the Color-Ready Midtown Cork Shapes.
The sparkle of these pages comes from the Bronze Shimmer Trim!  We also embellished with Sparkles, Washi tape, Baker's Twine and Base and Bling Word Accents!
Add a few Aqua Dots, stamping and cork shapes!  We stamped the whole right page with the Geometric Backgrounds stamp!
The Cricut Artbooking Cartridge has so many fun overlays that can be used in so many ways!  This one is layered to enhance the shapes!  Can you find the Zip Strip!?  First person who tells me where it is will receive some love in the mail!

One hint that was really fun, was to put your Washi tape on white card stock to pop the colors on it more.  Depending on the tape you would use other colors to pop the pattern!

Oh how could I forget!  We did the binding with the Slate Striped Twist Ties!

Last weekend I was in Salt Lake City for the CTMH Album retreat.  I stayed a few extra days and got to spend some quality time with my husband!  One of the highlights of our trip was going to the Utah Olympic Park.  While we were there the US Olympic bobsled team was doing their time trials.  The first picture I just got lucky and got the blur of the bobsled whizzing by!  The second picture above was taken with a shutter speed of 2000 and the bobsled was slowing down!  It was amazing to see in person!

Sparkle and Shine

The Christmas Mini Catalog for Close to My Heart goes live today!

The paper and new products included in the catalog are fun and festive.  The Sparkle and Shine Washi Tape 3 pack is one of the products I was intrigued by!  I couldn't wait to play with it.

The Washi Tape is so easy to use!  I just tore off a piece of the Silver and Juniper tapes and put them down and then perpendicular to that I added the Ruby and Silver tapes.  I liked it and but it really didn't seem to highlight the beauty of the Silver Washi tape so I went back and alternated the Silver and the Ruby tapes.

The Santa Claus stamp has lots of fun stamps including the Merry Christmas Stamp I used.  The Artbooking Cricut Cartridge to cut the mat and the paper I stamped the sentiment on with Ruby Ink.  I also used the Sparkles Clear Fourishes- Small  to a a little bling and the Bitty Sparkles on the Merry Christmas sentiment.

It literally just took a few minutes to make this fun card!  Wouldn't you like to create with these fun products too!?  If you spend $100 on anything from CTMH you will get a starred product from the mini catalog free! Check them out on my website!

Studio J No Limits layout

I know these look a little wacky, but I wanted to show you one of the things you can do with Studio J.
I am going to the Close to my Heart Album Retreat in October and we are going to be making 10 2 page layouts and a one page layout.

Many of the layouts have odd picture sizes like 1.5 x 1.5 inches.
They made templates for us to use to load all of our photos in for these layouts.

I realize you might still be sitting there going huh?  So we have a layout in Studio J called No Limits.  They took the photo sizes we needed and added them to the no limits layout.  They are printing them for us and we will cut them apart for the layouts we are doing.

SO why should you care?
If you are trying to do a layout that has 2x2 pictures on it and you can't find any, you can use Studio J to make them.  When you add a picture to a photo well it sizes it proportionally to the photo well.

The other cool thing you can do is add paper to the no limits layout and make your own layout using photo wells, text boxes and stick ease and embellishments.  This frees you up to have any kind of layout you want!

I didn't really finish this as you can tell there is only one page, but I started from a blank page and took Giggles and Grins which is red, yellow, white and black and cam e up with this!
It is fun to play and see what you can do

Green Eggs and Ham

Every year first Grade does a Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast near Dr. Suess' birthday.  This was the first time I got to go!  It was incredibly cute and fun!  The kids sang a song, ate green eggs and ham, and read a book to us.  They also had tons of artwork on display in the hall.  We still have their vase centerpieces on our table at home 6 months later!

The paper I used is the retired Animal Cookies. and I didn't really need any more embellishments than were already on the page.  I did add journalling where they had the title and the title above it!

The one thing I did a little different, the layout had white everywhere I have black.  I don't particularly like that much white so with just a couple of clicks changed it to black.  I also added white mats to pop the pictures some! I got 14 pictures on this page!

Flip Flap Love!

For this page I had 5 pictures that just would just not fit on this layout and I didn't want to do more than one page.  So out came the flip flaps to save the day.  On this one I was actually able to perfectly patch the page so that when the large 6x12 flip flap is open you can't tell it is different from the regular layout.
Then once the large flip flap is open you can open the 4x6 flip flap I have on the the far right picture.  I love the ease of using the flip flaps to add space to a layout!

Giving is the Best Gift of All

My girls helped make pillowcase dresses to go in Operation Christmas Child boxes. It was really a neat way for them to part of giving to others by giving their time and sewing skills.

I had been saving the background paper from Stella (retired)  because it looked like pattern pieces.  It was the perfect backdrop for these pictures!  The lacy flowers and some of the buttons I used were from the retired Bohemian assortment and the chipboard hearts were a great finishing touch and journalling spot.  I also used the Durable Artisan Studs in the center of the flowers on the right page.  They are self adhesive which I just love!

One of my favorite newish things to do is use the zip strips to embellish the page.  When we first got them I frequently wouldn't use them and just collect them.  However, on this page the brown strip with the zig zag stitching was perfect for the page and the subject matter.  I also used the colorful zip strip on the edge of the girls' pictures where they are modeling their dresses!

I am so happy that I saved that paper for this, my page turned out perfect with what felt like little effort!

To see more projects with Stella go here!
